To the Editor,

As a Vernon resident, I am delighted to be able to support Zon Eastes in his bid to become the State Representative for the Windham 1 seat in Montpelier. I know he is the best person in the race to represent both Vernon and Guilford.

I have known Zon for many years and have worked with him on many civic projects. He was a strong leader when The BrattleboroArts Initiative was fighting to save The Latchis Theatre as a community venue.He was a forceful advocate as Guildford’s member of the DVFiber, the Communications Union District for southeastern Vermont, dedicated to bringing affordable and reliable high speed internet to unserved and underserved areas. As Managing Director of the Brattleboro Music Center he successfully led the organization and put it on the road to where it is today.

As the chairman of the Guilford Selectboard he has brought a calm and pragmatic presence to many difficult issues facing the town. He weathered intense criticism while showing respect for opposing viewpoints without rancor.

Beyond his many accomplishments in our area, I know Zon as a compassionate, caring, knowledgeable person; using these attributes to bring people together and calmly discuss issues to bring about comprehensive solutions to many problems.

Above all, he is an honest man, a quality that should be welcomed in our current political landscape.
