Vote Zon for Food Security

Food security is a critical issue in our community – that’s why I’m voting for Zon Eastes to be our Guilford and Vernon representative in Montpelier.

Food security is a multi-pronged issue that requires a level headed, pragmatic, and compassionate approach. Zon has these skills. During his time on the Guilford selectboard, and most recently as its chair, Zon has shown himself to be a man of immense patience, groundedness, and reliability. He listens to all opinions, cares deeply about our community, and is focused on solutions.

It goes without saying that Zon is supportive of funding opportunities through our department of agriculture. The Vermont Agency of Agriculture funds projects to improve infrastructure, equipment, storage, and processing on Vermont farms. There are grants that aid in the distribution, manufacturing, processing, storing, transporting, and wholesaling of Vermont food products. Even our own Guilford Fair is made possible by a Vermont Agency of Agriculture grant.

Zon’s opponent in the primary, Jason Herron, is opposed to all Vermont Agency of Agriculture funding opportunities. In fact, Jason is categorically against all local, state, and federal grant funding as he made clear in a recent “listening session” that I recently attended. Despite Jason’s website saying that he will fight to “ensure food security for all Vermonters” he does not mean the Vermonters who receive food support from federally funded programs such as our local food pantries, food banks, SNAP, and WIC programs.

We can trust Zon to calmly and thoughtfully address complex issues such as food security with compassion and critical thinking.

Please join me in voting for Zon Eastes in the primary on August 13th.
