Bill Murray, Guilford

Editor:

When was the last time that you were really excited to vote for a candidate for political office?

I’ll be excited to cast my vote for Zon Eastes in the Democratic Primary on Tuesday, August 13th to represent Guilford and Vernon in the Vermont Legislature. I’ll be there again on Tuesday, November 5th to vote for him in the general election.

I don’t do so thinking naively that Zon Eastes has some magical plan to make tax cuts while providing services that many Vermonters rely on. Or that Zon, single-handedly, can wrestle us back to a time when neighbors who disagree are better at disagreeing without losing neighborliness, cooperation, civility and the better solutions to complicated problems we reach when we cooperate rather than battle for power.

All the fights make us angry, cost us money and don’t solve any of the problems that are still there when we pause. We need politicians who understand that to have any hope of making progress and contain exploding costs we need to cooperate and work together.

I know that Zon is smart, honest, hardworking, committed to solutions rather than pointless battles with those who have a different opinion. I’ve watched him for years invest time and energy locally not for power or money or prestige, but by working with others to make life better.

I hope residents of Guilford and Vernon, like me, will be excited to vote for Zon.

Sincerely,

Bill Murray
